Ad Sales Operations Sr. Manager, Fernanda Macias, offers a firsthand glimpse into the world of advertising and sales ops through the lens of her Mexico Capability Center (MCC) team. With a dynamic career across Ad Sales and a rapidly growing team, Fernanda reflects on her career journey and life at Warner Bros. Discovery over the last six years.

Q: Can you share more about your journey at Warner Bros. Discovery Mexico?

I joined the company six years ago as a Sales Planner after graduating with a degree in Entertainment Business Administration. In that role, I had the opportunity to work directly with sales and understand the world of advertising and media.

Gradually, I engaged with different teams and eventually moved to Ad Sales operations because I found it very interesting; it is the foundation of the Ad Sales business. The operations team is responsible for ensuring that clients broadcast their ads correctly, which is essential for completing the sales process.

Q: Your expertise across various Ad Sales functions makes you a real asset to the team. How have you approached becoming more well-rounded and knowledgeable?

Understanding why each team is essential and learning from each of them has always been important to me. Despite starting in a very different role and moving through various positions, I have always strived to know more and to develop a complete understanding of how each area functions and contributes to a successful sales process. Networking is also crucial. While the pandemic showed us that work can be done from home, office days remind us that there are many aspects of a business beyond our own areas that are important. This allows us to connect with other teams and leaders, discovering areas we might enjoy or opportunities where we can make significant contributions. I have always believed that genuine curiosity opens doors by teaching us to have different perspectives.

Q: What’s one piece of advice you’d give to younger Fernanda?

Growth is neither linear nor always upward. Growing doesn't always mean earning more money. The most important growth happens when we do what we are passionate about. I started studying Actuarial Science and later decided to switch to Business Administration in Communication and Entertainment. Although it might seem unusual, today my job combines elements of both fields. I would be more patient with myself and remind myself that there are no wrong decisions. Sometimes, taking a certain path is also about learning what we don't like and don't want. Today, I am far beyond where I ever dreamed I would be. I work in a field I am passionate about, have a job that makes me happy and fulfilled, and I lead an incredible team.

Q: What is something you value about working at the Capability Center at Warner Bros. Discovery Mexico?

Working at Warner Bros. Discovery is inspiring because it has iconic and beloved brands that we all grew up with, and knowing that you are part of that creates a strong sense of belonging that is hard to describe. The company's guiding principles are very well defined and established. Everyone works in alignment with them, ensuring that employees feel happy and part of something huge. People are always willing to lend a hand, and this spirit extends across different countries and languages. In our team, we work closely with other offices, and despite the distance, the language, and different time zones, we always receive help and support with a positive attitude. It creates a very friendly environment where you feel safe to ask questions.

Q: Where do you see Ad Sales going in the future?

I see Ad Sales experiencing tremendous growth. Just four months ago, the team started with 12 people. Today, we are looking to add 21 more, which will make us one of the largest teams in the office. I believe this opens up a lot of opportunities for everyone who wants to be part of it.
