Today's #AAPIHeritageMonth Spotlight is one of our favorite examples of teams at WBD lifting each other up. Joe Quinto is a senior motion graphic designer that's contributed to some of WBD's most ambitious visuals. But it was his team that took note of his passion for photography and made way for him to bring that passion to work. Read on to learn more about Joe's photography, plus his star-studded book club story, his favorite LA restaurants and more.

Q: What do you do at WBD?

A: I’m a senior motion graphic designer for the Worldwide Television Group. I’m part of a great team that creates assets for television shows, trailers, marketing sizzles, executive presentations and event activations. I’ve contributed graphics to things as small as internal e-blasts and as big as WB100. I love seeing the final product on TV and in the public domain.

Q: Tell us about one of your favorite projects you’ve worked on at WBD.

A: One of the biggest events our division handled was Comic-Con. We built, designed and operated the Warner Bros. booth for the four-day event. The COVID lockdowns resulted in Comic-Con being canceled. Our answer to that cancellation came in the form of an entirely new and exciting opportunity: DC Fandome. Fandome was a virtual ecosystem celebrating and promoting all things WB and DC. It was a completely new concept and we didn’t know what to expect, so we designed for anything and everything. I really enjoyed the collaborative nature of that project; working with DC, Theatrical, Games, Consumer Products and others to figure out the best way to present our upcoming projects on a global scale.

Q: What’s been your most fun day at WBD?

A: I was a board member for the legacy Warner business resource group NAPAatWB (Network for Asian Pacific Americans), and one of our major initiatives was a book club. One of the books we chose to read was Crazy Rich Asians, which coincided with the WB theatrical release of the film in 2018. This was a monumental opportunity to further highlight awareness of Asian representation in our industry. We often welcomed guest speakers to book club, and for Crazy Rich Asians, we were lucky enough to be joined by director Jon M. Chu and cast members Constance Wu, Henry Golding and Awkwafina. We also provided an early screening of the film before release. The movement behind Crazy Rich Asians had such an impact that our resource group counterparts from Disney, Netflix, Universal, and Paramount came to the lot to show support. Witnessing the overwhelming sense of community and being a part of that experience was unforgettable.

Q: What feeds your soul outside of work?

A: Dogs are a huge part of our lives. My wife works at a canine board and train facility. We’ve fostered multiple dogs over the years from local organizations like Wags & Walks and Wagmor Pets. We had two chow chows and during the pandemic, our schedules revolved around them. We’ve recently joined LA’s first canine social group called DogPPL, located in Santa Monica. It’s a safer, vetted, temp-tested alternative to a city dog park. It’s also a nice place to unwind because the weather is usually 10-20 degrees cooler than the valley, and they serve food and drinks on-site.

Photography has always been a passion of mine. I’m the one at all of our family parties – birthdays, graduations, Taco Tuesdays – with a camera on hand. From Kodak disposables to mirrorless DSLRs, I’ve been lugging a camera around for the past 20+ years. Our WBTV group knew I was into photography, so I was lucky enough to be asked to participate at Comic-Con for the Warner Bros. booth. I created graphics for the digital screens at the booth and did event coverage as well. Being around some of our studio’s top talent was the icing on the cake. My photos, along with the teams’, can be seen on the WarnerBrosTV Instagram page, as well as in publications like The Hollywood Reporter. Cooking is a new hobby of mine. Working from home saved me from many hours of traffic, and as a result, I spent that time learning a new skill. We’d always have either Beat Bobby Flay or Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives playing in the background, and I’d get inspired to try to make a similar dish with my own twist.

Q: Do you have any special traditions that celebrate your heritage?

A: Food has always been a big thing in Filipino culture; it’s how our elders show love. They feed you if you’re hungry, and they feed you even if you’re full. It was always a feast at family parties. Although the traditional dishes remind me of a home-cooked meal, we love trying the new generations’ takes on popular cultural meals. We like supporting locally owned businesses – to those in Los Angeles, we’d recommend The Park’s Finest, Crème Caramel LA, OI Fusion and Wanderlust Creamery.
