Meet Latin American employee Luis Nogaro and learn about his role as Sports Marketing SR Director of TNT Sports in Argentina, Chile, Brazil and Mexico and how he celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month.

What is your background?
Tengo mas de 20 años de experiencia trabajando con el deporte y la televisión. Comencé en agencias de marketing deportivo con organización de eventos corporativos de golf y futbol. Luego ingrese en el mundo de la televisión en 2007 al entonces Turner, hoy Warner Bros. Discovery. De 2014 a 2017 tuve un paréntesis, y fui a trabajar al club River Plate de Argentina como marketing manager de la marca River.

I have more than 20 years of experience working with sports and television. I started in sports marketing agencies organizing corporate golf and soccer events. Then I entered the world of television in 2007 at Turner. From 2014 to 2017 I went to work at the River Plate club in Argentina as a marketing manager for the River brand.

What is your current role?
Regrese en 2017 a Warner Bros. Discovery Argentina como director de marketing para el naciente TNT Sports. Actualmente soy senior Director regional de TNT Sports estando a cargo de la marca en los 4 mercados que tenemos operación: Argentina, Chile, Brasil y Mexico.

In 2017, I returned to Warner Bros. Discovery Argentina as Marketing Director for TNT Sports. I am currently Senior Regional Director of TNT Sports in charge of the brand in the 4 markets that we operate: Argentina, Chile, Brazil and Mexico.

Tell us how you got your start at Warner Bros. Discovery? Was is hard to 'break into the industry'?
Cuando ingrese en 2007, me llevo unos meses entender el mundo de distribucion (afiliados), de dimensionar el magnitud de Turner y luego comprender el formato de negocio. Siempre imaginaba que el fuerte de la televisión era la publicidad, pero luego comprendí que hay muchas unidades de negocio como distribución, sindicación, games, Home Entertainment, etc. El comienzo fue un poco fuerte, de muchísimo aprendizaje pero a la vez muy atrapante al ir sumergiéndome en este mundo fantástico.

When I joined in 2007 it took me a few months to understand the world of distribution (affiliates), and to measure the magnitude of Turner and then understand the business format. I always imagined that the main revenue stronghold in television was advertising, but I later understood that there are also many other business units such as Distribution, Syndication, Games, Home Entertainment, etc. The beginning was a bit strong, with a lot of learning but at the same time very captivating as I was immersed in this fantastic world.

What does your current day-to-day work entail?
Actualmente tenemos operación en 4 países de Latinoamérica. En cada país tengo un equipo de marketing que atiende ese mercado. El objetivo principal es generar suscripciones para el Pack futbol. También lograr tener una marca relevante para el fan. Acompañar al hincha en su fan journey diario. Lograr tener muchos puntos de contacto a través de las diferentes plataformas. Aspiramos a ser la marca numero 1 de deportes en la región.

We currently have operations in four Latin American countries. In each country I have a marketing team that serves that market. The main objective is to generate subscriptions for the "Soccer Pack," and also to have a relevant brand for the fan and to accompany the fan on his daily fan journey. We also want to achieve many points of contact through the different platforms. We aspire to be the number one sports brand in the region.

What's your favorite part of your job?
Sin dudas que poder trabajar con la pasión de los fans es mi parte favorita. El deporte despierta pasiones muy fuertes, y poder trabajar con esa pasión es realmente muy apasionante. Demanda mucho conocimiento y tiempo, es super dinamico y cada dia es una nueva oportunidad. Tenemos la ventaja que el fan nos “toca la puerta” todos los días para vivir su pasión a través de nuestras plataformas. Y eso a la vez es una enorme desafio porque hay que estar listos.

Without a doubt, being able to work with the passion of the fans is my favorite part. Sport awakens very strong passions, and being able to work with that passion is very exciting. It demands a lot of knowledge and time, but it is super dynamic and every day is a new opportunity. We have the advantage that the fan "knocks on the door" every day to live their passion through our platforms. At the same time, that is a huge challenge because you have to be ready.

What does celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month mean to you personally?
La influencia Latina en el mundo es muy fuerte, en el arte, el deporte, la cultura, las tradiciones. Es muy lindo y gratificante que se celebre. Las sociedades se componen de muchas y variadas piezas, y eso hay que celebrarlo y homenajearlo.

The Latino influence in the world is very strong, in art, sports, culture and traditions. It is very nice and gratifying that it is celebrated. Societies are made up of many and varied pieces, and that must be celebrated and honored.

Do you have any traditions when celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month that our employees can join in on?
No tenemos actividades especificas o diferentes porque absolutamente todo lo que hacemos con el deporte tiene su ADN latino, respetando sus tradiciones, y con una gran idiosincrasia local.

We do not have specific or different activities because absolutely everything we do with sports has its Latino DNA, respecting its traditions, and with a great local idiosyncrasy.

Who are the people that inspire you? How have they helped mold the person you are today and/or inspire you to become?
No hay una persona especifica, me inspiran mucho las masas, los grupos de gente que se mueven y fanatizan y persiguen una ilusión. Me inspiran sus comportamientos, su irracionalidad cuando viven un evento deportivo. Me inspira lo transversal del deporte, que no distingue clases sociales. Todos somos iguales frente a una pelota.

There is no specific person, the masses inspire me a lot, the groups of people who move and fanaticize and pursue an illusion. I am inspired by their behaviors, their irrationality when they experience a sporting event. I am inspired by the transversal nature of sport, which does not distinguish social classes. We are all equal in front of a ball.

What's something no one knows about you?
Muy pocos saben que naci y vivi en un pueblo muy chico de menos de 5000 habitantes. Creci en una zona de campo muy chica, con muy poco acceso a medios, a televisión. Y ver tan lejanas a las grandes ciudades, hizo que hoy sea un apasionado por viajar y por los grandes eventos masivos.

Very few know that I was born and lived in a very small town of less than 5000 inhabitants. I grew up in a very small country area, with very little access to media or television. And seeing big cities so far away, made me passionate about traveling and big massive events today.
