Hello! Give us the quick intro! Who are we speaking to?

Hey! I'm Kelechi "Kaycee" Iwuagwu, the Lead Fire and Life Safety Director at Warner Bros. Discovery's Park Avenue South headquarters in New York City. My role centers on ensuring the safety, security, and preparedness of our workplace while helping create an environment where employees, visitors, and partners can thrive with confidence.

Outside of WBD, I'm a proud UNA-USA Advocate for the United Nations, where I advocate for community development, accessibility, civic engagement, global peace, and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (#UNSDGs). At the heart of everything I do is a passion for serving people and making a positive impact.

What brought you to Warner Bros. Discovery, and what makes you want to stay?

I was drawn to WBD because it's an organization that connects people through storytelling, creativity, and culture on a global scale. What keeps me here are the people. I've had the opportunity to work alongside talented and supportive colleagues who genuinely care about what they do. Being part of a team that helps keep such a dynamic workplace running safely and smoothly is incredibly rewarding.

Your career journey probably wasn't a straight line. What were some of the key stops that led you here?

My career journey hasn't been a straight line, but that's part of what makes it meaningful. Life is a journey of crests and troughs, and each chapter has taught me something valuable. My path has taken me through security operations, facilities management, customer service, public relations, and data analytics—experiences that have challenged me, stretched me, and helped shape who I am today.

Along the way, I've strengthened my leadership abilities and learned how to stay calm under pressure, adapt to change, solve problems effectively and efficiently, and connect with people from all walks of life. Some opportunities came exactly as planned, while others arrived when I least expected them, but each one contributed to my growth.

Looking back, I realize that every twist and turn helped prepare me for my role at WBD, where I get to combine leadership, service, and problem-solving every day.

When someone asks, "So, what do you actually do?" how do you explain your job without the corporate jargon?

I tell them that I help make sure people can look forward to coming to work, doing their jobs, attending meetings, and enjoying their day without having to worry about safety or security issues. Whether it's helping someone gain access, responding to an incident, conducting training, or assisting during an emergency, I'm there to help make sure things keep running smoothly behind the scenes.

What's something people might be surprised to learn about your role?

Many people are surprised to learn that, as the Lead Fire and Life Safety Director, my role goes far beyond emergency preparedness and compliance. A big part of the job is building relationships, coordinating with different teams, anticipating potential challenges, and making sure people feel safe and supported.

Often, the best days are the ones when potential issues are prevented before anyone even notices them. That's a big part of what good safety and preparedness work is all about.

What's your favorite part of the workday?

My favorite part is interacting with people. Every day I meet employees, guests, and coworkers from different departments and backgrounds. I enjoy being someone people can rely on for help, information, or even just a friendly greeting. Those small interactions can really make a difference. I am a believer in the power of “small talks”. Some of the world's valuable relationships started with the most genuine “Hi”.

Is there a project, accomplishment, or milestone at WBD that you're especially proud of?

My favorite part is interacting with people. Every day, I meet employees, guests, and colleagues from different departments and backgrounds. I enjoy being someone people can rely on for help, information, or even just a friendly greeting. Those small interactions can make a real difference.

I'm a believer in the fine art of "small talk." Some of the world's most valuable relationships have started with the simplest and most genuine "Hi." You never know where a conversation might lead or the impact a small interaction can have on someone's day.

On the technical side, WBD has also helped me further strengthen my analytical mindset. As someone with a graduate degree in Data Analysis and Visualization, I've enjoyed working with the various systems, software, and technology tools we use every day. They've given me opportunities to sharpen my problem-solving skills, strengthen how I interpret information and data, and make more informed decisions in both safety operations and day-to-day building management.

What's a skill you've picked up at WBD that you didn't expect to learn?

One skill I've picked up at WBD that I didn't expect to develop is the ability to remember people's names. It may sound simple, but I've found that greeting someone by name can make them feel seen and valued. Seeing the smiles and positive reactions it brings is something I genuinely enjoy, and it's become one of the skills I'm most proud of.

WBD has also helped me further strengthen my analytical mindset. As someone with a graduate degree in Data Analytics, I've enjoyed working with the various systems, software, and technology tools we use every day. They've given me opportunities to sharpen my problem-solving abilities, improve how I interpret data, and make more informed decisions in both safety operations and day-to-day building management.

Every great team has a superpower. What's yours?

I'd say our team's superpower is staying calm, adaptable, and focused under pressure. No matter the challenge, we come together, communicate effectively, and find solutions while keeping people safe and informed.

If we were a Justice League team, I'd compare us to Green Lantern. His greatest strength isn't just the power ring; it's the ability to stay composed, use creativity, and turn willpower into action when it matters most. In many ways, that's how our team operates. We face challenges head-on, adapt to changing situations, and rely on each other to get the job done.

Who has had a positive impact on your experience here, and why?

I've been fortunate to work with many amazing people at WBD, but Antonia Andullerro, Ginevra Iverson, Winona Meringolo, Antoinette Miller, and Norma Mero occupy a special place.

Their warmth, positivity, and genuine care for others make a lasting impression on everyone they interact with. They bring a level of energy and vibrancy that helps create a welcoming environment throughout the building. Their professionalism, kindness, and ability to uplift those around them have made my experience at WBD even more meaningful.

Looking back, what's a WBD moment you'll never forget?

One of the things I'll never forget about my time at WBD is the opportunity to meet and interact with remarkable people from all walks of life.

Through my role, I've had the privilege of meeting Jan Krzysztof Bielecki, former Prime Minister of Poland, former U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, FC Barcelona and Spain national team star Ferran Torres, and Kirsty Coventry, President of the International Olympic Committee. These encounters have given me a unique appreciation for the global reach and influence of WBD and the incredible people who come through our doors.

While meeting world leaders, athletes, and changemakers has been unforgettable, it's the relationships I've built with colleagues across the company that make my experience here truly special. Every day brings an opportunity to learn, connect, and be part of something bigger than myself.

Work life balance is important to everyone at WBD. Is there something you do outside of work that you are really proud of?

Absolutely. One of the experiences I'm most proud of outside WBD is being selected as one of the United Nations Global Advocate for 2026 through the United Nations Association of the USA (UNA-USA). Work-life balance is incredibly important to me, and advocacy has become one of the ways I channel my passion for service beyond the workplace. As a strong supporter of the UN Sustainable Development Goals, I've championed initiatives focused on quality education, youth empowerment, gender equality, community development, and global partnerships.

Through this opportunity, I joined advocates from across the country in Capitol Hill, Washington, D.C., where we met with senators, members of Congress, and congressional staff to advocate for continued bipartisan U.S. support of the United Nations, its key agencies and programs.

What makes experience of this sort especially meaningful is seeing advocacy translate into real progress. Following these efforts, the US administration announced about $725 million for the UN regular budget and an additional $125 million for UN peacekeeping and security efforts, helping advance programs that support humanitarian aid, global health, world peace, education and sustainable development missions worldwide. Being able to represent my community, engage directly with policymakers, and contribute to conversations that can have a global impact is both humbling and inspiring. It reinforced my belief that whether at work or in the community, meaningful change happens when people step up, make their voices heard, and work together towards a common goal.

If you could spend a day in any WBD show, film, universe, sport, or franchise, where would you go and why?

If I could spend a day anywhere in the WBD universe, it would be Winterfell from Game of Thrones. I've always believed in finding your True North and staying grounded in your values, even when the path isn't easy. Besides, when the night is dark and full of terror, there's no better place to be than in the North.
