Q: Tell us about your #WBDLife experience. What was your most memorable moment during your internship?

Darshana, Global Franchise Management & Marketying MBA Intern, Summer 2024:

One of my favorite moments was working on the *Scoobtober* marketing campaign. Seeing how each partner—like Crocs, Spirit Halloween, and FUNKO—played into the launch strategy was surreal. I also got to vet Bugs Bunny interviews with Olympic athletes, which was a pinch-me moment! It was incredible to see how these iconic characters continue to engage with audiences in new ways.

Patrick, Global Streaming Program Delivery & Management MBA Intern, Summer 2024:

There were so many incredible moments from my time with WBD, including fantastic speaker events, studio lot visits, and team-specific activities. If I had to pick, my top three memorable moments would be 1) seeing one of my main projects, the new Spanish-language UI update on Max, go live during the last week of my internship, 2) supporting the CNN Max coverage of the Biden-Trump Presidential Debate, and 3) pitching a TV show to WBTV's VP of Comedy Development as part of the Intern Pitch Competition.

Rushil, Global Corporate Strategy MBA Intern, Summer 2024:
It is hard to choose from such a highlight-filled summer! The Global Corporate Strategy team did a fantastic job of allowing me to work on a wide array of projects and meet tons of people across the company. If I had to pick, my most memorable moment was presenting my proposal on a short-form strategy to 20+ WBD team members across 10+ business units.

Q: What are some of your biggest takeaways from the summer intern program? Any new skills or lessons learned?

Connor, Games Production MBA Intern Summer 2024:

Making a worldwide game is a very tough endeavor, and clear communication makes the process a little bit smoother. I learned and applied some incredibly powerful tools working alongside my manager to deconstruct design goals and identify problems we need to solve for. It’s important to prioritize and align with the company strategy especially in the gaming industry where rising costs and overall consolidation continue to make meeting goals tougher. These lessons helped me understand what is needed to make better decisions and what goes into a successful product.

Javiera, Content Strategy & Analysis, Streaming LatAm MBA Intern Summer 2024:

My biggest takeaway is that the industry is changing at an accelerated pace and that there are many opportunities to reshape the way we think about generating value within the media industry. I think this really pushed me and my team to think about problems differently and really dive deep into the data to understand how to navigate new trends in the industry.

Q: The MBA Trek is an essential part of the interview process. We select our MBA intern candidates from this trek and candidate must attend whether it's virtually or in-person. This Trek is an all-access pass to engage with recrutiers, former interns, and WBD execs while discovering our company culture, hearing about top industry business trends & strategic priorities, and snagging some top-tier interview tips (oh, and did we mention a tour of the WBD Studio Lot?) So, what was your experience like participating in the Trek?

Patrick:

The Early Talent team did an absolutely amazing job planning the MBA Trek! I was already excited about the prospect of working at WBD when I applied, and the MBA Trek reinforced this enthusiasm and provided me with a strong understanding of what life looks like as a WBD employee. I was energized by the company's rich history during the studio lot tour, inspired by all the panelists' passion for making WBD the best storytelling company in the business, and encouraged by WBD's commitment to and investment in early talent. Most of all, I had the opportunity to connect with members of the team that I ultimately interned with over the summer and got the chance to truly dive into the specifics of the role.

Javiera:

The MBA Trek was such a great experience and a big opportunity to network with both other applicants and people from within the organization. My favorite part was to learn more about MBA career paths and hear about the exciting avenues that different people had taken within WBD. It really broadened my perspective about paths and opportunities within the company.

Rushil:

As an applicant with limited prior experience in media & entertainment, the Trek served as a crash course on both WBD and the broader industry. I developed a deeper understanding of WBD's array of business units, strategic priorities, and guiding principles. Given speakers at the Trek ranged from senior leadership to managers, I received unparalleled insight and advice and left the event even more excited about the internship opportunity.

Connor:
The MBA Trek provided an excellent opportunity to learn more about WB and the games production team that I worked with. It allowed me to meet the team, gain insight into their culture and the broader culture at WB, and understand the goals they are working towards. Overall, the Trek was an unforgettable experience and an incredibly valuable part of the interview process

Darshana:

It wasn’t just about networking, but also about getting a real feel for WBD's culture. I loved hearing from executives and other former interns, which gave me a better understanding of how WBD values collaboration and creativity. It helped solidify my desire to intern there and made the interview process feel more personal.

Q: What advice would you give to future MBA interns looking to secure a role at WBD?

Darshana:

Tailor your application to show both your business acumen and your passion for entertainment. WBD is looking for people who love the industry and can back it up with strategic thinking. Be ready to talk about trends, industry challenges, and the unique perspective you bring to the table. And don’t forget to highlight any relevant project management experience—it’s essential for navigating cross-functional work at WBD.

Rushil:

Don't be intimidated about applying if you do not have extensive prior work experience in media & entertainment! WBD appreciates fresh perspectives and unique skill sets, so be sure to highlight those throughout the interview process. As long as you have a passion for the industry, there is a place in the internship program for you.

Patrick:

At its core, WBD is a storytelling company, so make sure you know how to tell your story and convey why you are passionate about the business and industry. It's difficult to fake passion - and you shouldn't want to either - so take time to reflect on your experiences and interests, and network with people at the company to figure out what excites you most.

Connor:

During your interviews, make sure to highlight your intangible skills and let your personality shine. At its core, WBD is an entertainment company that values creativity, collaboration, and people who bring unique perspectives and energy to their work.

Javiera:

The first step is to really understand the company and its guiding principles and to understand why WBD is such a special place! I also would recommend connecting with as many people as you can and making the most of recruiting events and the MBA Trek.

Q: How should MBA Interns prepare for their first week at their WBD Internship?

Darshana:

My advice would be to come prepared with curiosity and a proactive mindset. Take the time to research the company’s recent projects and initiatives, so you can start conversations and ask thoughtful questions. Setting up 1:1s with teammates early on is also key—those initial connections help you build rapport and understand the team dynamics.

Javiera:
I think two things are important. First, connect with your manager and team to better understand the role and responsibilities that you will have during your internship. This will help to reduce the anxiety and uncertainty around the first few weeks. Second, I would recommend keeping up to date with the latest developments in the industry and understanding how those trends impact WBD’s business.

Patrick:

Because the entertainment landscape is constantly evolving, try to get up to speed on what's going on in the industry and at WBD. Read the trades (The Hollywood Reporter, Variety, Deadline, etc.), listen to The Town, etc. Throughout your internship, maintain this inquisitive mindset and just try to learn as much as you can. But most of all, as you prepare for your first week, relax and take some time to catch up on your favorite shows on Max!

Q: What WBD content (show, movie, etc.) best describes your internship experience?

Darshana:

I’d say my internship was a lot like Space Jam. It was fast-paced, collaborative, and filled with unique characters (both real and animated!). Just like in the movie, I had to adapt quickly, work with a team of all-stars, and think on my feet to bring ideas to life. Plus, I worked on Looney Tunes at the Olympics, which added to the Space Jam vibes! Every day felt like a slam dunk! 🏀

Patrick:

Ted Lasso! The show is all about trying something new, working as a team, and tackling changes and challenges with positivity. I had a wonderful internship experience and couldn't have asked for a better group of people to work alongside.

Javiera:
I think my internship felt a little bit like the Looney Tunes, it was full of unexpected adventures that required me to adapt quickly and think on my feet. At the same time, I became part of an amazing community that worked together and had many good laughs along the way.

Rushil:

Wonka best describes my internship experience! Like Timothée Chalamet's titular character, I had the opportunity to be a self-starter, build lasting relationships with new people of different backgrounds, and leave my mark on WBD.

Connor:
I would choose Wonder Woman. Diana’s experiences were marked by growth, and challenges to overcome. My internship was filled with opportunities to become better, and to test frameworks I picked up during my MBA coursework. It was an empowering experience that left me excited for what’s next!
