Genevieve South studied Anthropology at University College London, and in her final year, did a Human Evolution Fieldschool with The University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg. What started out as an ambition to work for National Geographic magazine blossomed into an opportunity to work for Nat Geo TV, her first job in TV as a Programme Planning Assistant. 6.30 My alarm goes off for the first time; I'm a notorious snoozer...My morning routine starts well with a strong cup of tea, but I always end up slightly frantic before leaving the house so I prepare as much as I can from the night before. I drop my daughter to school, then catch a train from South East London for a hefty commute to Chiswick Park, the WBD office based in West London. Luckily, I usually get a seat on the train so I can log on and get started with emails, read the news, catch up on industry news, clear any pressing personal admin and check the latest mailout from Houzz.co.uk.

8.45 Arrive to the office, grab an autumnal Pumpkin Spice Latte from Starbucks, and find a private booth to join my first call: a Management Team meeting with my manager and his direct reports. He is based in Amsterdam. A large part of my working week is conducted over Zoom with people all over the world, even when I am physically in the office. We discuss key priorities and actions on this fortnightly meeting.

10.00 Back to my desk for a Zoom meeting with UK Editorial and Legal to discuss the yearly reporting requirements to OFCOM, the broadcasting regulatory body in the UK. OFCOM (Office of Communications) regulations demand that a minimum of 30% of all linear and digital programming output is from a European production company. This can be challenging, as a large portion of content comes from the US Networks; however, the UK does have a healthy commissioning slate, which has to be factored into my team's scheduling selections.

10.45 Pop to the canteen as one of the BRGs (Business Resource Groups) is giving out free cupcakes. WBD has numerous BRGs giving opportunities to support and promote various diverse groups. I am a member of the BRG BOLD UK (Black Outstanding Leaders Delivering) who do a fantastic job at organising networking events, screenings, and more.

11.00 I join a Zoom for an external client meeting with one of our key partners in the Middle East. We supply a high volume ingest service to this partner, which involves regular client calls with me, some of my team and our MENA based Commercial team. The deal includes a programme production element, as the client was keen to increase their local production offering. I oversaw the first commission for them: a cool adventure gameshow featuring three female influencers.

11.45 I complete an online personality test questionnaire as part of the Leadership Learning Coaching Circle I am starting. I've engaged in a few similar courses at WBD, and they have been invaluable in my career.

There are always opportunities to join some form of learning and development courses at all stages of your career, and it's a great exercise to reflect on your current position, strengths and challenges.

12.30 I pop down to the staff canteen which has a great salad bar, and I get a takeaway box to eat back at my desk and prep for my upcoming team session.

14.00 It's the Discovery Channel's 40th anniversary next year, which is a great opportunity to elevate the channel and brand across EMEA and increase the value of the channel to our affiliates. My team and I brainstorm to come up with content ideas and identify which affiliates we can target. This will be an important strategic project for the wider Discovery Networks team in 2025.

15.30 I join a Tech Systems Migration call - as the digital viewing landscape has had a meteoric rise over the last few years, the tech systems are at the coalface of this shift. WBD has developed its own in-house digital scheduling and delivery system which is a crucial part of the medial supply chain. It's exciting to be part of the development of these systems and shaping the future requirements of how our content is managed and presented on our partners' platforms. The call includes colleagues based in India, Europe and the U.S., and normally starts with a comment on the local weather and time zones!

16.00 My last call for the day is with Amazon - it's a regular monthly check-in on the status of our latest content delivery, discussion of upcoming high-priority shows and update on the progress of our tech migration.

17.00 I head home, where I get changed into my comfies, head to the kitchen and put on either BBC 5 Live or Times Radio. I love cooking, thankfully! I mostly cook vegetarian or with fish due to family preferences. Even though my husband is possibly a better cook than me, he is entranced by the magic of food delivery apps (which he would order most nights if I didn't insist on cooking). We all eat together whilst watching Cobra Kai.

If I didn't work in VOD, my other career would be as a makeup artist. I've got a MU qualification and have done friends and family weddings, programme productions and photo shoots.
